It’s been rather quiet on the PEL front, but now we have some details regarding PEL Contenders series. PUBG Esports posted an article outlining the system and schedule for the contenders series but it’s a lot to take in. So, here are the main points from that article.
The series will commence on February 21st with thirty-two teams divided into two groups. Teams will play a total of 48 matches through four weeks of competition, determining their placement. The top eight teams from each group will continue on to play in the PEL Contenders Final. While 9th and 10th place from each group will not make the finals, they will reserve a position in PEL Contenders’ next phase. This will be huge, because any team finishing 11th and lower will be competing against teams from PEL Open for their spot in Contenders. Basically, win and you’re playing in the finals with a chance to be promoted to PEL, or lose and you’re fighting new teams coming for your spot in Contenders. This is the schedule for PEL Contenders:
• February 21-24th – Group A
• February 28th – March 3rd – Group B
• March 7-10th – Groups A and B
• March 13-17th – Finals
• March 25-27th – the first stage of PEL Contenders Promo
• 1-3rd April – the second stage of PEL Contenders Promo
It’s great to hear something official about PEL Contenders, but it doesn't replace the anticipation everyone is feeling. And unfortunately the only update provided on PEL was a quote from PUBG stating “More information on PEL will follow up in March.” So, it looks like we’ll have to focus on NPL, NPLC and now PELC for the time being.
